Orphanages within Russia are critically underfunded by the state government and are thus highly dependent on domestic and foreign humanitarian aid. The needs of any given orphanage to provide adequate health care, shelter, nourishment, and developmental support to its children are substantial and ongoing. They range from diapers for the children to crucial housing maintenance.

The St. Petersburg Orphanage Fund was created to monitor the needs of several orphanages in St. Petersburg and to offer help with open heart and willing hand.
